Ariadne-Webinar
In June 2021 a committee of the Swedish government published a comprehensive report about a potential phase-out of fossil fuels in the Swedish transport sector. The recommendations will now be discussed by the political parties before any decisions are made or legislation is decided on. Åsa Löfgren will present the main recommendations of the report with special focus on the chapter reviewing a potential ban of the sale of new petrol and diesel cars. She is one of the experts who have served as reviewers and discussants of this chapter.
Date: 30 June 2021 from 5 pm to 6:30 pm (CET)
Åsa’s talk will be accompanied by short responses from:
- Alex Keynes, Transport & Environment
- Thomas Fabian, European Automobile Manufacturers‘ Association
- Kai Whittaker (invited), Member of the German Parliament (CDU)
- Falko Ueckerdt, Ariadne Project & Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK)
The focus of the subsequent discussion, moderated by Michael Pahle (Ariadne Project & PIK), will be a critical examination of the pro and con arguments for banning internal combustion engines (ICEs). The implications of the Swedish case for the rest of Europe will also be considered.
