The Kopernikus Project Ariadne creates a learning process with political, civil society and economic actors to explore and discuss options for shaping the energy transition and provide political decision-makers with important orientation on the path to a climate neutral Germany. Regular exchange with stakeholders is an important part of the project. Therefore, Ariadne organises citizens’ conferences, parliamentary events and dialogue forums on topics that are relevant for decision-makers from companies, associations, ministries and governmental authorities. As a platform, Ariadne offers a space for exchange and brings different groups of stakeholders together.
The dialogue formats are aligned with Ariadne’s thematic focus. Scientific contributions are complemented by inputs from practice and create a space for discussion among participants. Ariadne’s aim is not to create consensus. Rather, the aim is to reveal different perspectives that are relevant for the discourse on the energy transition, and thus for decision-makers.
Dialogue formats
This format is aimed at stakeholders from business, politics and NGOs on the industrial and heat transitions. The dialogue forums are designed in such a way that a consistent group, comprised of representatives from the above-mentioned target groups, meets regularly over the project period with Ariadne researchers to discuss research results in light of current political events. Scientific contributions are complemented by comments from the field, and there is plenty of room for discussion and exchange. Based on mutual trust, the dialogue forums should contribute to a better understanding of different points of view, and incorporate new arguments into scientific research. The discussion of the scientific research results and stakeholder perspectives aims to provide all participants with new knowledge for future decisions.
Stakeholder dialogues
In addition to the ongoing dialogue forums, stakeholder dialogues address individual issues that may arise from citizen deliberation or research results, for example. These are reflected upon with relevant actors from business, politics and NGOs, and research questions are refined within Ariadne.
Parliamentary events
Within the framework of parliamentary breakfasts or parliamentary dinners, Ariadne experts prepare scientific findings for the political process and discuss them with members of the German Bundestag.
Policy Workshop
At the end of the first three-year project phase, Ariadne invited representatives from politics, associations and science to a policy workshop in Berlin to discuss future research questions, knowledge transfer formats and demands on scientific policy advice. A second policy workshop is planned for June 2024. More about the Policy Workshop 2023 here (german only).
Kopernikus Symposium
The symposium is primarily aimed at high-ranking decision-makers from politics and industry. It presents the main results of the four Kopernikus projects, focusing on one main topic each year. More information about the Kopernikus Symposium can be found here (German only): https://kopernikus-symposium.de/
Citizen deliberation
In addition to the exchange formats with organised stakeholder groups, the Ariadne project has also pursued dialogue with citizens from the outset. After all, the energy transition can only succeed if it has broad societal support. During the deliberation events, citizens discussed the challenges, opportunities and policy options around the expansion of renewable energies and the transformation of transport.
